Just days from opening, The Populus in Denver says it will be the only carbon-positive hotel. The 13-story, 135,000-square-foot hotel, at 14th Street and Colfax Avenue, cost more than $100 million to build, much of that going to environmentally responsible building materials. To offset its carbon footprint even further, Populus secured tons of offsite tree and soil credits, planted 70,000 more trees, bought wind energy and will have zero parking spots.

Urban Villages is overseeing the project. The Beck Group is the general contractor. Studio Gang designed the exterior. Chicago-based Aparium Hotel Group will manage the 265-room hotel, that features two restaurants, a coffee shop and several gathering and event spaces.

Plans to develop Populus began six years ago. Construction commenced in April 2022.
